French toast

- Square bread (3 slices/approx. 3.4-3.6cm) 2 pieces
- 1 whole egg
- 2 egg yolks
- 3 tablespoons beet sugar
- milk 180ml
- 10g unsalted butter
- 2 tsp granulated sugar
- Moderate amount of maple syrup
- Appropriate amount of fresh cream
Instructions (preparation time: about 30 minutes)
- Heating the milk : Heat 180 ml of milk until lukewarm.
-
Prepare the bread : Trim off the sides and cut the bread in half.
- Make the egg wash : Place the whole eggs, egg yolks and beet sugar in a bowl, stir well, then add the warm milk.
-
Soak the bread : Pour the egg liquid onto the bread in the plate, press the bread gently to fully absorb the egg liquid, turn over and marinate for about 10 minutes. Tip: If soaked overnight, the texture will be moister.
- Preheat the oven : Preheat the oven to 220°C for about 10 minutes.
-
Prepare for baking : Place the soaked bread on a square plate lined with baking paper, place butter cut into 5 mm cubes on the surface of the bread, and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
- Bake : When the oven heats to 220°C, place the square pan on the lower rack of the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
-
Turn over and bake : Take out the square plate, turn the bread over and bake at 220°C for another 5 minutes. Tip: The square plate is very hot, so be careful to avoid burns when handling it.
- To finish : Place the toasted bread on a plate, drizzle with maple syrup and serve with whipped cream.
This toasted bread is rich and creamy, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is even more delicious with maple syrup and fresh cream. It is a perfect dessert or breakfast.
